The 2012 Chevrolets

Every April, the New York International Auto Show happens at the Jacob Javitz Convention Center, where the auto makers show off their latest and upcoming models to the public. I was invited to attend the Auto Show’s press day to see the new cars coming from Chevrolet.

The big announcement at the Auto Show was the new Chevy Malibu.  Coming in early 2012, the new Chevy Malibu is a sleeker, more aerodynamically shaped than the previous model. Inside, the new Malibu is sportier and has more room with the color touch screen radio and Chevy MyLink to connect a smartphone to the radio and use apps like Pandora and Stitcher Radio natively with the radio. The Malibu also has a rear camera that appears on screen when in reverse, which was a feature I really liked on the Equinox during the Chevy SXSW Road Trip and made it easier to back up and parallel park.

The press conference that unveiled the Malibu also revealed the Malibu ECO. With all of the features of the Chevy Malibu LTZ, the Malibu ECO is a version of the Malibu LTZ with light electrification, giving it hybrid levels of miles per gallon.

Chevy also showed off the Sonic at the Auto Show. This small car gets 40 miles to the gallon and has high customizability between accessories and unique paint accents that give the owner a unique look and feel for their vehicle.

When driving the Equinox down to Texas, we asked our GM reps if we could trade in the SUV for a Camaro after seeing one in a car showroom in Tennessee while our flat tire was being changed (regardless of the fact we could never fit ourselves and all our luggage in it).  At the Auto Show, the Camaro continued to look just as sexy as it did that day.  While there was no major announcement made, the Camaros on the show floor just made me want one all over again.

Seeing the new and upcoming Chevrolet cars at the Auto Show made me want to take them for a ride. In addition to the cars they were showing off, the Volt, Cruise, Corvette and SUVs were also making a showing on the floor, making for a good assortment of Chevy cars for 2012.
