I am currently sitting in the Sunshine State, counting down the hours to my longest run to date. This Saturday, January 8, 2011, I will be running the Walt Disney World Half Marathon in Orlando, Florida, where I will be joining thousands of others in running through the Disney parks in an effort to run 13.1 miles.
In my short running career, I’ve tried to run interesting courses, which have thus far been the Bronx Zoo and Yankee Stadium. The course for the half marathon will take me from EPCOT then around the Disney hotels and back to EPCOT. A rather unique course for a run.
My longest run so far is 11 miles. I had planned to get closer to the 13.1 miles in my training, but I was sidelined by the blizzard that hit New York at the end of 2010. With no place to fully run that far, I did my best and continued to run, even with limited places to run. Even with the declining training, my goal for this run is to do it in under two hours. Although the mandatory finish time is 2:45, I have confidence in my ability to significantly surpass that.
