The 2015 Brooklyn Half Marathon

With the threat of rain, thunder, and lightning looming over the day, 26,482 of us trekked to Brooklyn, NY for the NYRR Brooklyn Half Marathon. While the rain mostly held off, it overshadowed the day as we ran.

The Disneyland Star Wars Rebel Challenge

My first half marathon was at Walt Disney World in 2011. At the time I had never run such a distance before and led me to my desire to run marathons, but it led me to running five more Run Disney race weekends (including a Goofy and the inaugural Dumbo Double Dare). I decided to take 2014 off from Disney races in order to run the Berlin Marathon in Germany, but when I heard there was going to be a Star Wars themed race weekend, I had to make my return to Disneyland for the cross section of two of my passions.

Recap: Brooklyn Half Marathon 2014

It had been about a month since the NYC Half Marathon ran through the streets of Manhattan, and I hadn’t run much since then due to inclemental weather and a busy schedule. I was able to get in my long runs on the weekends leading up to the Brooklyn Half Marathon, but felt I was woefully unprepared as that fateful Sunday loomed.

Recap: NYC Half Marathon 2014

After running three marathons last year, I decided I was going to take it easy for the first half of this year. No major races while I let my body recuperate from all those small injuries that accumulate from pushing so hard. When the NYC Half Marathon lottery opened, I thought I would get an entry and see what would happen. When I was granted an entry, I decided to just run it rather than race it.

Recap: The runDisney Dumbo Double Dare

After an unseasonably hot run in January for the Goofy at Walt Disney World, I signed up to run in the inaugural Disneyland Dumbo Double Dare. Running a half marathon and full marathon in the same weekend in 80 degree heat did not discourage me from signing up for yet another back to back race on the other side of the country.

Road To the 2014 NY Marathon: Brooklyn Half Marathon

It was still dark as I woke to make my way to Brooklyn for the morning’s race. The early start time and the distance between my home meant having to awaken far too early to drive down there, park by Coney Island and take a subway up to where the race began. For the third year in a row, I forced myself to undergo this ritual in order to run the Brooklyn Half Marathon.

Road to the 2014 NYC Marathon: NYC Half Marathon

Every year in New York City, the marathon is a major event that runs 26.2 miles through all five boroughs. The second biggest race for the New York Road Runners is the NYC Half Marathon, a 13.1 race around Manhattan that 14,500 runners had to run four out of five of the previous year’s five borough races or enter via lottery. In 2012, I ran four of the races (Brooklyn, Bronx, Staten Island, and Queens) in order to run this year.

Recap: Walt Disney World Marathon – The Goofy

For the past two years, I’ve headed down to Walt Disney World to run during the Marathon Weekend. In 2011, I ran my first half marathon (the Donald) and in 2012, I ran the full marathon around Walt Disney World (the Mickey), but having completed both, there was one other possible goal to achieve during the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend, and that’s the Goofy – running both the half and full marathons in a single weekend.

Road To the 2013 NY Marathon: Bronx 10-Mile

One week after achieving a PR (personal record) at the Disneyland Half Marathon, I returned to New York to run my next race. To gain automatic entry into the 2012 ING NYC Marathon, I ran the next race in the Five Borough Series, the Bronx 10-Mile.

Recap: Disneyland Half Marathon 2012

In January, I trekked out to Orlando, Florida to run the Disney World Marathon. After completing 26.2 miles around Disney World, I decided I had to return to Disneyland for the Disneyland Half Marathon again and complete the Disney Coast to Coast Marathon on more time.
