Recap: Queens 10K 2014

As marathon training began earlier this year, it became time to start running races again to prepare for the big races. The Queens 10k is one of the five borough races to qualify for the NYC Half marathon the following March. As such, I decided to wake up early Sunday morning to head out to run.

LEGO Fusion – Augmented Reality Meets the Plastic Brick

Children today utilize digital play devices as much as they do the physical play, but don’t necessarily differentiate the difference between the virtual and the physical. To bridge the gap between the two, LEGO has introduced four new sets under the Fusion theme that will allow children to build and bring them into their mobile devices and tablets to play with.

Special Edition NYC

Comic book conventions have become big, bloated masses of multimedia entertainment. Movies, books, television, video games and every other form of mass media entertainment overshadow the comic books for which the conventions are named. This past weekend, the folks at Reedpop, who run the New York Comic Con in October, put on Special Edition NYC, a stripped down show that was exclusively about comic books.

Review: Snuggbuds Fusion

When I saw the fine folks at Snuggbuds at the expo for the NYC Half Marathon, we talked about their different products, and the different headphones I have reviewed in the past and their different products. At the end of our conversation, they gave me a pair of their Snuggbuds Fusion headphones to check out and try running with.

Review: The LEGO Mindstorms EV3 Laboratory

I’ve recently started working with LEGO Mindstorms EV3, the latest iteration of the LEGO robotics system. Receiving a copy of The LEGO Mindstorms EV3 Laboratory by Daniele Benedettelli was well timed, since I was learning to use the robotics kit as I began reading the book.

Recap: Brooklyn Half Marathon 2014

It had been about a month since the NYC Half Marathon ran through the streets of Manhattan, and I hadn’t run much since then due to inclemental weather and a busy schedule. I was able to get in my long runs on the weekends leading up to the Brooklyn Half Marathon, but felt I was woefully unprepared as that fateful Sunday loomed.

Review: How to Make Your Cat an Internet Celebrity

Nothing is as popular on the internet as cat pictures and videos. Everyone loves Lil Bub, Grumpy Cat, and Maru, so why wouldn’t they love your cat too? That’s why Quirk Books released the tongue in cheek book How to Make Your Cat an Internet Celebrity, which claims on the cover to be “a guide to financial freedom.”

Review: Knights of Badassdom

Role playing gamers tend to take their games seriously and seriously immerse themselves in the fictional worlds they are involved in. When it comes to Live Action Role Playing (LARPing), the players act out their parts fully and get even further invested when they attend gatherings with other likeminded players. But what would happen if […]

Recap: NYC Half Marathon 2014

After running three marathons last year, I decided I was going to take it easy for the first half of this year. No major races while I let my body recuperate from all those small injuries that accumulate from pushing so hard. When the NYC Half Marathon lottery opened, I thought I would get an entry and see what would happen. When I was granted an entry, I decided to just run it rather than race it.

Review: LEGO Space: Building the Future

LEGO builders tend to favor certain themes to build in. One of the most popular themes is Space, which encompasses moonbases, spaceships, mech suits, and other science fiction type builds. With the popularity of Space, it only makes sense that No Starch Press would put out a book focusing on Space building with LEGO Space: Building the Future by Peter Reid and Tim Goddard.
