Bittorrent is considered by many to be the best way for downloading large files to the pc and mac because it breaks it up into smaller pieces, which are then shared amongst seeders (people who have the whole file) and leechers (people who are downloading) who upload the pieces they have to other users while downloading from other users in the swarm the pieces they need until they have the whole thing.
