Road To The NY Marathon: Jingle Bell Jog

Over the course of the year, I have been running assorted races under the New York Road Runners in order to gain automatic entry into the 2012 ING NYC Marathon. My ninth and final race for 2011 to gain entry into the marathon was the Jingle Bell Jog around Prospect Park in Brooklyn, NY.

Road To The NY Marathon: Join the Voices

As the year starts to wind down, so do the number of races I have left to qualify for the 2012 ING MYC Marathon. Having procrastinated with the races during the year, I run up to December needing to complete my 9+1 for automatic entry into the marathon. The Join the Voices race to benefit brain cancer research was my latest race, and one I knew I wouldn’t do well from the start.

Road To The NY Marathon: Race To Deliver

With the 2011 ING NYC Marathon behind me, I still needed to run three more races to get my automatic entry into the 2012 NYC Marathon. This past Sunday, I ran the Race to Deliver, a four mile race around Central Park to support Gods Love We Deliver.

Recap: 2011 ING NYC Marathon

When I sat down at brunch in February 2009, I expected to have dumplings. What I got instead was so much more. As friends are wont to do, they challenged me to start doing Couch to 5K and preparing to run the Bronx Zoo Run for the Wild 5K. Not only did I run it (and besting their times), I continued running. Bigger and longer races until I reached the pinnacle, the New York Marathon.

I Am Running the ING NYC Marathon This Sunday

In a journey that has taken almost 2 years, I am finally going to run my first marathon this Sunday. With over 60,000 runners traversing the landscape of New York City’s five boroughs, the ING NYC Marathon is the largest marathon in the world, and I look forward to taking my place on the starting line with all these other great athletes from around the world.

Road to the NY Marathon: Poland Spring Marathon Kickoff

This past Sunday, I attempted to continue on my road to the 2012 ING NYC Marathon. Running nine qualifying races and volunteer to assist with one race guarantees entry into the following year’s marathon. The Poland Spring Marathon Kickoff, a 5 mile race in Central Park, was supposed to be my sixth race, but unfortunately it was not to be.

Road To The NY Marathon: Staten Island Half Marathon

As we enter the last quarter of the year, and the 2011 ING NYC Marathon looms closer, I train for the marathon while working on completing races in order to qualify for the 2012 marathon. On my way to completing the requirements for entry into next year’s marathon, I ran the Staten Island Half Marathon.

Road To The NY Marathon: Norway Run

With the 2011 ING NYC Marathon a mere five weeks away, I continue to train to run 26.2 miles while running races to qualify for a bid into the 2012 marathon. My fourth race in the New York Road Runners 9+1was the 1.7 mile Norway Run.

Road to the NY Marathon: 5th Avenue Mile

With my continued goal of running in the ING NYC Marathon, I signed up for seven races for my eligibility for the 2012 marathon before joining the American Cancer Society’s team for the 2011 marathon. As I train for the 2011 marathon, I will be running these races to run it in 2012.

Road To the NY Marathon: I Am Running in the 2011 ING NYC Marathon!

I have been running consistently for the past 19 months. From February 2010 to the present, I have gone out in sun, rain and snow in order to train and become a better runner. I have run 5ks and half marathons, working hard to achieve greater distances and better times each time I went out. Having completed half marathons, the next step would be a full marathon, and as of today, I am running in the ING New York City Marathon in November, the largest marathon in the world.
