NYRR Queens 10K 2019

In my attempt to get an entry in the 2020 NYC Half Marathon, I need to run four out of six of the qualifying races – one for each borough and the NYC Half Marathon itself. Having already run the NYC and Brooklyn half marathons already, the next race in the succession was the NYRR Queens 10K, so this past Saturday, I took sneakers to pavement in Queens to continue qualifying.

As races are run in New York during the year, they are often done with an eye towards the following year’s races. New York Road Runners has two big races every year – the NYC Half Marathon and the NYC Marathon – and the easiest way to enter each is to run a number of qualifying races the prior year to enter each. Recap: Queens 10K 2014

As marathon training began earlier this year, it became time to start running races again to prepare for the big races. The Queens 10k is one of the five borough races to qualify for the NYC Half marathon the following March. As such, I decided to wake up early Sunday morning to head out to run.

Road To the 2013 NY Marathon: Queens 10K

In order to get an automatic entry into the coveted New York Marathon, a runner can complete 9 races and volunteer for one, to complete what is called the 9+1. This guarantees a place in the following year’s marathon. For the NYC Half Marathon, there is a similar program, where a runner can run four out of five of the borough races and gain entry. This past weekend, the Queens 10K was one of these races.
