iOS 5 First Impressions

With Apple’s annual World Wide Developer’s Conference underway, the annual keynote from Steve Jobs introduced new versions of the Macintosh OS X and and iPhone iOS operating systems. Development builds for both were released Monday night to members of the Apple development program to begin making sure their software works in anticipation of the general release in the fall.

Road to the NY Marathon: UJA Run for Israel

The ING New York City Marathon is arguably the biggest marathon in the world. Thousands of runners apply to run 26.2 miles through the streets of New York City in this annual event. There are multiple ways to enter the marathon, but the most preferred method is referred to as the 9+1.

Netflix comes to more Android Devices

In the two weeks since Netflix has come to the Android, the biggest complaint about it is that it has only been on a small number of devices. The programmers have been hard at work and continue to bring it to new devices.

Yurbuds

When I visited the Run Expo as part of the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend, one of the companies exhibiting at the expo was Yurbuds, headphones that are supposed to stay locked in while running. Months later, as my over the ear Nike Vapor headphones became worn just before the Brooklyn Half Marathon, I felt it was time to finally try a pair of Yurbuds.

The Brooklyn Half Marathon

This past Saturday, I ran the Brooklyn Half Marathon. This is the first long race I’ve run since The Walt Disney World Half Marathon and has significance beyond just being a long race.

Netflix on the Motorola Droid

Earlier this week, I wrote about the release of Netflix on the Android operating system. Although it had only been released for five Android phones, enterprising hackers made it possible to download and install Netflix on other devices. Since writing about it, I have finally installed it on my Droid.

Netflix comes to Android

For the last year and a half, I have been a big fan of Netflix and their streaming service. Slowly Netflix added devices that could support their services, from consoles like the Wii, XBox360 and the PS3 to the iPad to mobile devices including the iPhone and Windows Phone 7. Finally, Android has been added to the list of devices that can stream movies and television programs and can be downloaded from the Android Market.

Must Have Apps For the HTC Thunderbolt

The HTC Thunderbolt is the latest Android phone from HTC and the first Droid phone on Verizon Wireless to access the 4G LTE high speed network. In addition to being the fastest phone, it has a hi-res 4.3″ screen with DLNA, which will allow the user to move movies, music and photos from the phone’s screen to a compatible flatscreen. Of course, all these great services are nothing without good apps to take advantage of them.

Touristbot 2.0

I built the original Touristbot for BrickFair 2009. The concept was simple enough, a LEGO Mindstorms robot that could take pictures at the event. Although the execution was slightly more complex than it needed to be, the robot was a success and took hundreds of pictures at BrickFair and subsequent events. Unfortunately, with thousands of pictures taken, the moving parts slowly wore down and it was time to restart and rebuild.

The Verizon Samsung 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot LC11

I recently attended a Verzion Wireless and Mashable event, where some of the latest Verizon devices were on display, and a few were given out via raffle. While they gave away a Motorola Xoom and a HTC Thunderbolt in the first two raffles, it was the third and final raffle in which I won a new iPad and a Samsung 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot LC11.
