Review: The LEGO Christmas Ornaments Book Volume 2

In the midst of the heat of summer, thoughts of the holidays dance about as we seek ways to cool down. What better way to celebrate Christmas in July than by building ornaments out of LEGO with The LEGO Christmas Ornaments Book Volume 2?

Chris McVeigh is considered very highly in the LEGO community for his small, intricate LEGO builds, so much so that LEGO hired him this year to be a designer for them. In The LEGO Christmas Ornaments Book Volume 2, Chris creates 16 new and unique ornament designs to compliment the designs his original The LEGO Christmas Ornaments Book.

While the 16 ornaments in the book flow from one to the next based on the build rather than a formal organization, they fall into three types of LEGO creations – 2D representations, 3D representations, and geometric designs. The 2D representations tend to be flat characters like Santa Claus and his reindeer, showing how Christmas inspired LEGO creations can be done flat. The 3D representations are a mix of holiday themed ideas (gingerbread house and Christmas tree) and things that are not necessarily Christmas inspired but adapted to be ornaments (a 90s computer and claw machine). The geometric designs are all very much inspired by old school ornaments and snowflakes, giving a unique take on old fashioned ornaments.

The directions are all clear and easy to follow. While the final results look quite complex, the actual building process shows how simple they are to build, giving a result that will impress anyone who doesn’t know how effortless it is to build the ornaments in The LEGO Christmas Ornaments Book Volume 2.

What better way to celebrate Christmas in July than to build some ornaments and start preparing for the real Christmas? The LEGO Christmas Ornaments Book Volume 2 will get you started building them, and hopefully inspire even more unique ideas to put on the Christmas trees come December.
